Honeybee and Bee Basics 

Train the Trainer Video (Child or Adult) and Materials

Anyone can be a presenter in our Volunteer Programs. Lisa Boesen has made a great little video to help you share the following powerpoint deck, Honeybees and Bee Basics with your audience.  We get many requests from schools to have someone come in and speak about beekeeping, but not enough volunteers to fulfill the need. We hope this video helps you with wanting to be a NCBA volunteer presenter, get an idea of content, and practice if necessary.

 

 

This is our second year to offer this class virtually on Zoom. In 2021, we had over 40 students participate in this interactive session and we received great reviews.
You will need a computer with camera and audio functions along with a good internet connection. We will be teaching the class through zoom.   All students will receive a private zoom meeting link. Please do not share this link. Please register with the same email address that you will be using to attend the class. Registrations with different names and emails will not be admitted to the zoom meeting. We will be checking the roster to match up.
The class will not be recorded or distributed. The presentation will not be distributed. Attendance will be the only method of receiving class content. All students will be virtually mentored via an email group through your first season. (January-September)

ORDERS WILL NOT BE FIXED!  if you check out, the order is completed as is.  PLEASE ORDER CAREFULLY.. there are no refunds or exchanges. so please only order if you are truly vested in purchasing bees.         

 

 

April 29th Pickup Moved to May 6th

Unfortunately, the weather in California is causing delays in queens getting out to mate. This has resulted in Koehnen & Sons pushing back our April 29th order by 1 week. We are always disappointed when this happens, however some things are simply out of our control.  Please see the letter from Julie below for more details.
 
 

NUC PICK UP DATE: MAY 20th

LOCATION: 755 Ponderosa Dr, Windsor, CO 80550, USA

 

We will be doing NUC pick up on Saturday, May 20th in Windsor between 10am and 12noon.  Please park on E Garden Drive and walk to the backyard gate.  

 

 Nuc Delivery will be in May and the location will is yet to be determined.  please check back for details.

 

 

PACKAGE PICK UP INSTRUCTIONS:

Package pickup will be on May 6th in _New Freedom Church – Berthoud_.  we will be distributing packages at _10:30am til 12noon_   Please see the map on how to enter the facility. We ask that you line up with your vehicle and remain in your vehicle to keep the line and distribution process quick.   

We will have someone there handing out marshmallows for your queen cages.   Please be careful with swapping the cork for the marshmallow so that your queen does not escape. Queens that escape will sometimes often return to the cluster. so we ask that you wait at least 1-2 days to locate your queen in your colony if this happens.  Or you can leave the cork in place and manually release your queen 3-5 days after your package install.    We will have very few extra queens in case of a DOA. If your package happens to have a dead queen (which is rare) upon arrival.  Please contact Tim (ncbavp @nocobees.org) with-in 2 days of package pickup. You will need to bring the dead queen in her cage for the exchange.   

If you are not personally available to pick up your package, please make arrangements for someone else to pick up your package and install them for you.  You must pick up your package on May 6th between 1030am and 12noon that day only or you may lose your package.  You should install your package that day, weather permitting. If we happen to have bad weather, you should be able to keep your bees in the package for at least 2-3 additional days.  We will have further instruction on package install for bad weather if this is the case. 

Please do not show up at distribution site if you have not already purchased a package.

if you have not ordered a package, please do not show up to the delivery.   We will distribute NUCS until 12:00pm on Sunday May 2nd.  NUCS will not be held if you do not make it, we will make every effort to call you before shutting down package pick up.  Please arrange for someone to pick up your bees if you are not able to make it. Otherwise, we reserve the right to sell your NUC.

PLEASE TRY TO SHOW UP DURING YOUR DESIGNATED TIME, if you absolute can not make it during your time, you can still pick up your package between 10:30am and 12:00pm. 

With COVID-19 still among us. we ask that we all take the necessary precautions. Social distancing will be enforced.  Please stay in your vehicle until you are at the point to pick up your package. You will be asked to pull forward to your package and put it in your car yourself.  Please review the photo diagram of how cars should enter the bee package pick up area. you can call my phone number as i will be on site – 970-690-4213

This year, our bee packages and NUCS will be provided by Too Bee or Not Too Bee in Englewood.   When ordering, you will be able to enter the QUANTITY of packages when IN THE CART.. so press the ADD TO CART button, then view cart, then enter the quantity of the packages you would like to order. If you are ordering both Carnolian and Italian, click the CONTINUE SHOPPING link when in the cart to go back and select the other bee type you would like.
