Guest Speaker: Dr. Samuel Ramsey – Varroa After the Fat”

Samuel Ramsey’s fascination with entomology started 25 years ago and still shows no signs of waning. Prior to his 2nd-grade paradigm shift, Ramsey suffered from a debilitating fear of insects that he conquered by educating himself about them at his local library. Now the Endowed Professor of Entomology at CU Boulder’s BioFrontiers Institute, Ramsey seeks to apply his fascination with invertebrates to understanding and preserving the ecosystems that they make possible. His research on honey bee health decline has taken him around the globe in search of a better understanding of how pollinator pandemics start and how they can be stopped. His work has been recognized nationally and internationally winning first place in both categories of the International Three-Minute Thesis Competition, receiving the American Bee Research Conference’s Award for Distinguished Research, and the Alumni Excellence Award from the University of Maryland College Park. His nonprofit, The Ramsey Research Foundation, works to remove barriers that slow the progress of and decrease access to science by developing novel pathways for scientific funding and by removing paywalls that keep the public from engaging with published scientific work.

We will be opening this program to CO beekeeping associations
and pollinator research groups in CO and WY.
