From: Sarah Bayer – I’m a member of NCBA and also a science teacher at Polaris Expeditionary Learning School in Fort Collins. This year, I’m putting together a week long intensive course for our high school students on Beekeeping the week of October 1-5. We are planning on having about 10 students involved in the class.
We need help to get this done! If you can contribute time and energy to any part of the class described below, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The objective is to teach the same course that you all teach as a part of your introduction to beekeeping class in January so that students can keep their own bees in the spring time. We are planning also for students to build their own top bar hive, visit a researcher or two at Colorado State, visit local hives in and around the neighborhood, Become familiar with general hive maintenance (by actually getting into hives), and cooking with honey. I would also like to do some kind of service learning project towards the end of the week (perhaps help out with honey extraction — the messy part of course, or otherwise preparing for winter)
