Presidents Message – October

NCBA Members:

When I first proposed bringing in a nationally recognized speaker for one of our member meetings, there was concern among EC members that it would be too expensive.  I want to report to everyone that the total cost to NCBA of Michele Colopy turned out to be $150.40 because we shared her time, expenses and presentations with three other regional clubs:  Denver Bee, BCBA and 4-Corners. This shows what can be done with a little cooperation and planning effort.

Now, the club has an annual speaker fee budget of $4000. Imagine what fantastic speakers we could enjoy from, potentially, around the world! Imagine what kind of membership draw NCBA could become if we get the reputation of bringing in the best speakers available anywhere!

New officers have volunteered!  Thanks to all who are willing to serve. Some of the existing EC members have agreed to stay on.  Nominations have been closed.  October’s “vote” is simply to accept the new committee.  This is the new EC:

President:  David Izaguirre
Vice President:  Tim Hardy
Secretary:  Nancy Jones
Treasurer:  Greg Krush

Mitch Cheek
Brian Davies
Kris Holthaus
Terry Jones
Kelvin Kerst
Sheri Kerst
George Ottenhoff
Zach Owens
Merry Popa
Bruce Rice
Don Studinski
Josh Vaisman

The “election” will officially occur in our upcoming October members meeting. If you would like to have input to that process, please attend. We will be serving pulled pork sandwiches and kale salad. This is another attempt to 1. bribe members to attend the October meeting and 2. reward members for reading the president’s message.

I have enjoyed being your president for the last 2 years.  Thanks for allowing me to serve.  I’m super pleased with the plans already in place for 2018 with respect to our Beginning Beekeepers Class and our Package purchase plan. Likewise, I’m looking forward to the new ideas, processes and procedures that I’m sure will soon be seen from our new officers and advisors.

Next up, a newsletter from David Izaguirre, your new president.

Best wishes!  … Don Studinski (303)248-6677

About NCBA – Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association

The Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association (NCBA) is an organization of both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers.  We exist to provide a forum for education in beekeeping both to our members and to the general public, and for exchange of ideas and experiences.  We also enjoy some ability to provide savings in bees by purchasing as a group.  We are affiliated with the Colorado State Beekeepers Association.  We meet once a month with the above objectives in mind.  Each meeting strives to discuss one or two subjects of interest in beekeeping.  Whenever possible we will discuss beekeeping and hive maintenance activities appropriate for the next month.  We also like to provide time for members to discuss beekeeping among themselves.  Once a year, usually around January, we conduct a multi-session beginning beekeeping class.  On completion of the class, we offer you the opportunity to join the association, to order bees, and we offer you a mentor to help you get off to a good start.  If you have any interest in keeping bees, we encourage you to join us. We believe joining a beekeeping association such as ours is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to start beekeeping. By joining now you will receive our news letter as well as notification of upcoming classes and meetings.  Dues are modest and affiliates members with the Colorado State Beekeepers Association. See the pages about future and past meetings for examples of meeting content..
