1. Bee Informed Survey

Dennis Van Englesdorp, head of the Bee Informed Partnership, is the guest speaker for the CSBA Winter meeting.  I think we should give him an early CO welcome by making sure as many people as possible fill this survey out. Dear Beekeeper, The Bee Informed Partnership, a joint project among numerous universities and laboratories, is a project whose aim is to help beekeepers make better management decisions and thus reduce colony losses.  To do this effectively, we need beekeepers, lots of beekeepers, to participate in our survey. We are asking you to please participate in two surveys.  Both surveys are open only from 30 March through 20 April 2012. You can learn more about the Bee Informed Partnership at beeinformed.org.  In advance, thank you for your participation.  National Winter Loss and Management Survey  http://participate.beeinformed.org/Surveys/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=76KI4p3 The winter loss survey should take less than 5 minutes and the management survey should take less than 20 minutes. The purpose of the Bee Informed Partnership is to use beekeepers’ real world experiences to help solve beekeepers’ real world problems. We will use the data generated from these two surveys to help you decide which management practices are best for beekeepers like you, who live where you do and have operations similar to yours.  For this to work, we need as many participants as possible…so please take the time to fill out the questionnaire and SEND THIS EMAIL TO ALL THE BEEKEEPERS YOU KNOW asking them to fill out these questionnaires too. You can see what type...
  2. NCBA Package Bee Delivery Info

We are using a custom distribution list to notify those who are participating in the NCBA Package Bee order of the delivery details.  An announcement was sent using that list late on Wednesday, April 11th.  If you are getting packages through the NCBA order and did not receive that email with the NCBA logo at the top, (not a copy of this announcement I sent to NCBAmembers@nocobees.org discussion list) please email ncbatreasurer@nocobees.org with your name and email address, so I can be sure you’ll get the information you need. The news is Good!  The bees are now scheduled to arrive about a week earlier than we had anticipated.  Primary distribution is planned for Thursday, April 19th from Noon until 6:30 PM.  Distribution will occur at a location in Johnstown.  We will schedule additional pickup opportunities for Friday, April 20th and Saturday April 21st, for those who aren’t able to pick up their bees earlier.

About NCBA – Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association

The Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association (NCBA) is an organization of both hobbyist and commercial beekeepers.  We exist to provide a forum for education in beekeeping both to our members and to the general public, and for exchange of ideas and experiences.  We also enjoy some ability to provide savings in bees by purchasing as a group.  We are affiliated with the Colorado State Beekeepers Association.  We meet once a month with the above objectives in mind.  Each meeting strives to discuss one or two subjects of interest in beekeeping.  Whenever possible we will discuss beekeeping and hive maintenance activities appropriate for the next month.  We also like to provide time for members to discuss beekeeping among themselves.  Once a year, usually around January, we conduct a multi-session beginning beekeeping class.  On completion of the class, we offer you the opportunity to join the association, to order bees, and we offer you a mentor to help you get off to a good start.  If you have any interest in keeping bees, we encourage you to join us. We believe joining a beekeeping association such as ours is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to start beekeeping. By joining now you will receive our news letter as well as notification of upcoming classes and meetings.  Dues are modest and affiliates members with the Colorado State Beekeepers Association. See the pages about future and past meetings for examples of meeting content..
